Keep the frame, replace the cloud. A stock frame can be pointed at any server that implements three HTTPS endpoints, from the pairing flow, with no toolchain and no reflash. A complete reference server in plain stdlib Python ships in the repo. Bring your own server.

No frame at all: an ESP32-S3, a 13.3 inch E Ink Spectra 6 panel, and the same open firmware. Build your own frame.

The license

Firmware is Apache-2.0. The network map is Apache-2.0. Data from the network API is ODbL. The poster art stays ours; a licensed key for it is coming, and Build says where that stands. Everything the frame needs to exist without us is public.
