The firmware is open, the protocol is published field by field, and the paths around our server are supported. Three ways in, by how much you want to own.

The firmware

Read what your frame runs. The complete ESP-IDF source, the provisioning flow, the download verification, the sleep logic. The firmware.

Bring your own server

Keep the frame, replace the cloud. A stock frame can be pointed at any server that implements three HTTPS endpoints, from the pairing flow, with no toolchain and no reflash. A complete reference server in plain stdlib Python ships in the repo. Bring your own server.

Build your own frame

No frame at all: an ESP32-S3, a 13.3 inch E Ink Spectra 6 panel, and the same open firmware. Build your own frame.

The license

The firmware and the network stack are Apache-2.0. The one thing that stays ours is the art: the renderer that composes the daily poster is what you are buying when you buy a frame. Everything the frame needs to exist without us is public.
